Synotic Otic Solution is given topically in the ear. How does this medication work? Synotic works by blocking the production of substances that trigger allergic and inflammatory responses in the ear. What results can I expect? The anti-itching component of Synotic occurs quite rapidly (within hours). The anti-inflammatory effect may take longer. What form(s) does Synotic Otic Solution come in? topical Generic Name: Fluocinolone with dimethyl sulfoxidebr> Common Brand Name: Synotic Dose and Administration: The ear should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before treatment. Remove any debris, crusty material, etc, with a suitable non-irritating ear cleaning solution. Clip any excessive hair from the ear or treatment area, as directed. Apply the prescribed amount in the ear and gently massage the ear to distribute the medication. Avoid contact with the eyes. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. Wear gloves when applying Synotic. Avoid contact with your bare skin. The DMSO is rapidly absorbed through the skin, enters the blood stream, and causes an unpleasant taste in the mouth for a short time. Avoid contact with the treated area until it has dried. Do NOT give Synotic by mouth. f you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for thenext dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once. Possible Side Effects: DMSO may cause a garlic or oyster-like breath and taste in the mouth. Corticosteroids with DMSO may cause a short, stinging sensation, especially on open skin, and a temporary increase in temperature of the treated area may be noticed. If ingested or given at high doses for an extended period of time, the most common side effect of corticosteroids with DMSO is an increase in the amount of drinking and urinating. Less commonly, you may see an increased appetite, a change in weight, panting, diarrhea, vomiting, and behavior changes. Consult your veterinarian if you notice any of the above side effects. If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of thesesigns, contact your veterinarian immediately. Drug and Food Interactions: Contact your veterinarian before using Synotic with vitamins and supplements, or in the presence of other medications, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, carprofen (Rimadyl), deracoxib (Deramaxx), or etodolac (EtoGesic), since interactions may occur.
