What is Primor? Primor is a broad spectrum antibiotic combination used to treat susceptible bacterial infections in dogs. What are the benefits of Primor? Effective against most skin infections A single, low dose provides rapid and sustained therapeutic blood levels Formulated for: Dogs How is this medication given? Give Primor by mouth. It may be given with food. Leave plenty of water for your pet to drink. How does this medication work? Primor is made up of two antibiotics that limit bacterial growth, but also kill the bacteria as well. What form(s) does Primor come in? tablets Generic Name: Sulfadimethoxine/Ormetoprim Common Brand Name: Primor Tablets Dose and Administration: Give Primor exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Your pet™s dosage is generally based on his/her body weight. Do not stop this medication or change your pet™s dosage without consulting with your veterinarian. If a dose is missed, give the missed dose as soon as you remember during the same day. However, if you don't remember until the next day, skip the dose you missed and give only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not give a double dose of the medication. Only give Primor to the pet it has been prescribed for. Possible Side Effects: Sulfa crystals may appear in your pet's urine. Your pet should be allowed to drink plenty of water while taking this medication. Other side effects that may occur include KCS or dry eye, anemia, fever, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, joint inflammation, kidney damage, or skin rash. Stop the medication and contact your veterinarian if any of the above symptoms occur Other side effects are possible. Contact your veterinarian at once if your pet is acting ill in any way after taking Primor. Drug and Food Interactions: Before giving Primor, tell your veterinarian if your pet is being given methotrexate, warfarin, phenylbutazone, thiazide diuretics, aspirin, probenecid, or phenytoin. Precautions: Do not use in pregnant or nursing animals. Decreased water consumption and aciduria enhance the probability of the formation of sulfonamide crystals in the urine. Storage: Store at a controlled room temperature out of reach from children and pets. A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Primor. Size: 600 mg.
